SRI LANKA SPORTS CLUB (SSC)
ESTABLISHED : 2006
SSC was officially formed in 2006 and was a founding member club of the Saigon Cricket Association (SCA) later to be renamed the Vietnam Cricket Association. The vision was not so much about cricket but about bringing the Sri Lankan community together through cricket. For Sri Lankans, cricket is not just a sport; it is a way of life. The passion for the game has always united Sri Lankans at home and abroad.
In Vietnam we are proud to talk about our rich cricketing culture and thankful to all those made it possible, sacrificing their time and money without any expectation in return. The first President was Angelo Pillay and Vice President Kevin Perera. Under the captaincy of Angelo Perera, the SSC won their first VCA championship in 2007. Later SSC would repeat their success under Suhard Amit, winning the championship twice in 2010 & 2012. The SSC were losing finalists in 2006, 2008 and 2009
A person who deserves special mention here is a gentleman named Anthony Illango – Manager and Mentor of the SSC cricket team from 2006 to 2011. His dedication and contribution to the team and to cricket in Vietnam cannot be overstated. We lost this special person in 2011 but he will always remain in our hearts.
Today SSC has broadened its horizons beyond cricket, organizing different cultural, religious, charity and sporting events to keep the spirit of Sri Lanka alive. The present (2014) SSC President is Kevin Perera and Vice President and Sundarraj Devarajah. SSC cricket team is led by Joel Sabreen and VC Bertram Mahesh supported by Jeewantha Jayasuriya as the Manager. And last but not least, without the support of our valuable sponsors we wouldn’t have reached these heights. We would like to thank all our sponsors and the Sri Lankan community in Vietnam for your wholehearted support over the years and for making us proud of our culture and our way of life.
